  • ch Y
ch Y 1 месяц назад @Jack Bauer That just kind of means European and american car makers are incredibly short sighted
  • Jack Bauer
Jack Bauer 1 месяц назад @ch Y I mean european and american car makers are making hybrids but they are mostly plug in hybrids. Is stardard hybrid cars that much better than plug in hybrids or what? I haven't owned any hybrids so I really have no idea.
  • ch Y
ch Y 1 месяц назад @Jack Bauer neither have i, but not everyone has a garage to plug in their cars or an easy outlet without having to modify your house, especially in Europe, so hybrid non plug-in are just more accessible all round.
  • Jack Bauer
Jack Bauer 1 месяц назад @ch Y Yeah thats true. I guess they would be suited better in northern Europe since most of the cars there have block heaters so there are bound to be outlets everywhere. Now I'm only wondering whether the plug in capability comes with disadvantages over non plug in. Well I'm not buying a hybrid anytime soon so I guess it doesn't really matter
  • jacob83035
jacob83035 1 месяц назад (изменено) Germans hybrid technology is shit
  • Jan
Jan 1 месяц назад That's also because German car manufacturers want to go electric, unlike the Japanese car manufacturers which have said that they don't want to go electric at all. Yes, I think Toyota has still announced a single electric car due to popular demand, but still, they are ratherr against it as a future engine possibility
  • jazz03

  • Huy Thai
Huy Thai 1 месяц назад Jan not really. Tesla’s battery technologies are public knowledge, making it extremely easy for manufacturers to take that tech and call it their own. That’s the only reason why there are so many European and American electric cars coming out these few years, while the Japanese and Koreans have invested a lot into hybrid and hydrogen technologies for the past decades, therefore their plates have been full and will continue to be until they decide to just take the easy way out and use Tesla’s impressive electric technologies.
  • di N
di N 4 недели назад @Jack Bauer Plug in are generally a lot more expensive because of the size of the battery, and will probabliy loose its value significantly more for this same reason. Imagine you are a second hand buyer, to replace a normal hybrid battery you will pay 3 grand, on the PHEV it will be 3x or more, basically kind of making it a dead paper weight because it will just not be worth it.
  • di N
di N 4 недели назад (изменено) @Huy Thai yeah full EV are great but when it comes the time to replace the battery on a EV you will just cry, and probably toss it on the garbage because it will be so expensive that it will just not be worth it... maybe battery prices goes down to so cheap that what i am saying doesnt make sense, but i dont see that happening any time soon. Hybrids like the prius on the other hand have already proved themselves to the test of time, and they can go for so long on a smaller battery, that when its time to replace them the cost is similar to what a rebuild petrol engine would cost factor in the petrol cost and the end user will see the benefits as many already do, and the car lives on... EV cars are a completely different best when it cames to the car lifespan. As of today i dont see them beeing cost effective in the long run... maybe that will change... maybe not.
  • Huy Thai
Huy Thai 4 недели назад di N well yes, but like any technologies, there’s a lot of room for improvement. Electric has a lot of potential and battery technologies have not been fully explored yet, while the combustion engine is reaching its peak efficiency levels. In the future, perhaps there might be a reliable and cheap electric option compared to combustion engines, who knows.
  • di N
di N 4 недели назад @Huy Thai like you said... in the future, maybe we will have reliable and cost efficient EV, as of now hybrids such as prius are lot more financially viable, and tesla may have a impressive tec, but its just not a car made to last hundreds of thousands of Kms. You have prius beeing used as taxi and uber all over the world reaching half a million miles, there is just no way an EV can do that.
  • sachin ruchchan
sachin ruchchan 2 недели назад Japanese vehicles have been designed to last for long time with low maintenance costs. European cars have designed for show off and duration of 5 years.
  • Tony Pasby
Tony Pasby 1 месяц назад Yes Toyota/Lexus are 8/10 years ahead of other mainstream manufacturers when it comes to Hybrid technology, plus Toyota reliability is insane, I've seen old ex Taxi Toyota Prius's with over 400,000 miles on them, incredible.
  • Foto4Max
Foto4Max 1 месяц назад Tony Pasby Toyota should have way more plug in hybrids. Otherwise a hybrid is pretty pointless...
  • Darcer's Tech
Darcer's Tech 1 месяц назад Not really. Toyota / Lexus got stuck on hybrid while everyone else moved to plug-in.
  • Jason Gregory
Jason Gregory 1 месяц назад (изменено) @Darcer's Tech not everyone has a drive way or garage hybrid makes more sense for the masses
  • Darcer's Tech
Darcer's Tech 1 месяц назад @Jason Gregory The government should finally invest in public chargers which could be used overnight. All the investment seems to be on fast chargers now, which is fine, but not excellent.
  • Le Chat Botté
Le Chat Botté 1 месяц назад (изменено) @Darcer's Tech do you know there is a plugin hybrid of the prius with over 25 miles of range??! there are even versions of prius with solar roof foe extra energy toyota isnt playing with other manufacturers they have a really good technology and for electric cars they are actually working on it to improve the batterie technology (charging and discharging lifetime) before they can produce them so there is no struggle there
  • Darcer's Tech
Darcer's Tech 1 месяц назад @Le Chat Botté Toyota has been publicly anti-EV. But it's companies like Tesla which have challenged them, because they managed to show that EVs really do work, batteries last a long time if designed properly, and there is demand for these cars. The Prius Plug-in is not a "proper" car. It only seats 4 and has a tiny boot, despite being the same size as the hybrid Prius.
  • Tony Pasby
Tony Pasby 1 месяц назад (изменено) I'm not so sure on plugins, my opinion? I dont see that as the future, I just dont see people "plugging in a wire to recharge our cars", i dont know, I maybe wrong, but as mentioned not everyone has access to a driveway to plug in. I don't see EV as the future for the masses, I really don't, I reckon this hybrid kind of set up is still the future, the best of both worlds sort of thing, where cars of the future will have a small zero emission petrol engine aided by electric self charging motors. Whether technology will allow us a small conventional petrol engine with zero emission remains to be seen, with the ability to achieve 150 miles to the gallon. That's just my opinion on it.
  • Darcer's Tech
Darcer's Tech 1 месяц назад @Tony Pasby People got used to charging phones daily. Don't see any difference with a car (provided the infrastructure is there). The problem with hybrids is that we have pretty much maxed out the efficiency of the internal combustion engine (at approx. 40%). That's just physics. Combustion is not an efficient way of extracting energy. Hence, the sooner we drop it, the easier it is to make a more efficient car.
