geektoro 11 месяцев назад Being born European but raised in the U.S., it wasn't unusual for our parents to send us back to the old country for the summer. In '82 my dear old dad bought us a Citroen CX . During a drive we popped a tire doing 150+kph(roughly 90mph) on the highway. We had no clue until we stopped for fuel and notice the tire had a small tear. The Citroen's suspension was so good the car was balanced on 3 wheels with no lose of control.

  • TheGearhead222
TheGearhead222 2 дня назад These are such neat cars-I remember an owner showing me his DS in Austin, and I noticed the huge STOP light behind the speedo-I guess that it indicated when the suspension system failed? Not sure. What really blew me away was the transmission location on the engine. IIRC, the 4 cylinder block is parallel to the car body and the tranny is perpendicular to the engine!-John in Texas

  • Okipouros
Okipouros 1 месяц назад My grandparents had one of these, after a long weekend he used the manual starter from the front to start it, because he never bothered changing the battery. After that they got a mini... i couldnt sleep in it anymore :D . But the body roll was stomach sickening (literally) in the Citroen in twisty roads

  • Gravy Davy
Gravy Davy 2 месяца назад Paul H I was with my brother in a BX going around some very sharp bends and my brother was wondering why the car behind was flashing his lights, we stopped and had a look around the car and the left rear tyre was completely flat. my brother could feel absolutely nothing wrong with the steering or handling. They were that good, you can drive on three wheels.
  • Dark Knightwing
Dark Knightwing 2 месяца назад musamor75 not anymore but they certainly used to and also, Rolls Royce Motor Cars and Rolls Royce Aero Engines are completely separate companies and have been for decades. Plus, Rolls Royce Aero Engines power most jet airliners as well as boats, helicopters and some propeller planes too. Citroën only provided suspension for the Rolls Royce Silver Shadows and maybe Spirits, I can’t remember for certain.
  • Lux Moto
Lux Moto 2 месяца назад (изменено) @Vincent Ingram. Absolute nonsense. Last year I had a blowout rightfront with 140 km on a 4 lane highway with heavy traffic in a renault kangoo !! only thing happening was the noise, which made me slow down and told me to pull over to the emergency lane. Car handling didn't change at all. Tire was completely shred to pieces.
  • Jesuscger
Jesuscger 3 месяца назад Normal thing on Citroen with hydro suspension.
  • Vincent Ingram
Vincent Ingram 3 месяца назад @Paul H Any other car would have been careening all over the road, except for the DS and SM which also use the same suspension. You notice a flat on a normal car because the suspension cannot adjust to it. These cars do. In fact the favourite 'party trick' is to take one rear wheel off entirely and drive it on 3 wheels only. Try that in your F100..
  • Paul H
Paul H 4 месяца назад @Rui Interesting. I would have never guessed that the ugliest car in the world would be the best balanced car in the world.
  • patmowag41
patmowag41 4 месяца назад @Paul H You don't understand. The hydropneumatic suspension system was so good that the puncture would be un-noticable on a straight road until the tyre started to break up.

  • musamor75
musamor75 4 месяца назад @Richard P Rightly so my good man. Did you know that it's the Citroën firm that provides the suspension for Rolls Royce, and has always done? Just as RR provides the motors for Boing.
  • Rui
Rui 5 месяцев назад most french cars from 90's to early 00's are had to notice a flat, my dad had a 406 blow a tire in city driving and only notice 1 km later and mostly because of the noise, that car kept handling fine, a friend in a 206 also blow the front tire at 90km/h and had all the time of the world to stop the car safely and had no lose of control...
  • Wayne Mazzola
Wayne Mazzola 5 месяцев назад @Paul H What geektoro says is true if you were ever driving in one of these and blew a tire the car is so well tuned you will not lose control of the car the suspension system compensates so quickly with the other wheels it takes almost all weight off the damaged tire and redistributes it to the others literally the safest car you can drive from the standpoint of a blown tire!!!!
