  • Gatasku
Gatasku 2 недели назад @Austin Yup "If you cannot put it down in 1st with no aids and no feathering the throttle, the car needs better suspension, not more power." Umm, ..what? Almost any car with any power worth mentioning would wheel spin if you slam the throttle down in 1st gear. Have you driven a car before?
  • Austin Yup
Austin Yup 2 недели назад @superbarnie spin it 9500rpm. Crank hp. Huge ports, clean intake system and exhaust system. Big cams. Horsepower is all about airflow. There are people who are getting over 400 wheel horsepower NA on these things. Check out the 4piston engines.
  • superbarnie
superbarnie 2 недели назад @Austin Yup But how did you get 300hp out of a NA k20? And is that estimated bhp, or whp (measured on a dyno)?
  • Austin Yup
Austin Yup 2 недели назад @superbarnie its a 95 civic sedan with a k20 swap and mostly sphericalised suspension arms. Running 225/50r16 tires all around.
  • superbarnie
superbarnie 2 недели назад @Austin Yup What car are you referring to, 2000lb 300hp naturally aspirated 4cyl? I'm not aware of any such thing.
  • Adodoes
Adodoes 1 месяц назад @Austin Yup yes because these modern cars don't grip at all and don't obliterate lap times??? And i wanna know how did you get 300hp from an NA 4 banger, because i seriously doubt it makes that much. Plus 300hp would definitely spin the tyres in the first gear especially in a 2000lb car Does your car by any chance run on magic pixie dust?

  • Liam
Liam 2 месяца назад (изменено) @Austin Yup if you have perfect warmed up tyres, yeah its a bit hard from a standstill simply because it doesnt make great power from low RPM. But if youre keeping it in powerband it spins quite easily on rolling corner exits, even if you have straightened out. They have 40-50hp running properly, and weigh fuck all, you definitely have to conciously try NOT to spin the tyres when youre pushing them hard Superkart has absolutely no troubles spinning tyres and i beleive it is acttually faster than gp and i think F1 on 1 or 2 tracks. Having power to spin wheels doesnt make cars bad at handling, it just means you have more when you need it, when you dont need it you just choose not to use it.
  • Austin Yup
Austin Yup 2 месяца назад @Liam spinning tires (at least in a straight line) on a 125 shifter is actually pretty hard to do. You have to modulate the clutch perfectly in 1st at wide open throttle.
  • Liam
Liam 2 месяца назад @ik ben lol exactly the shifter karts and superkarts have no problem at all spinning wheels, because theyre so light. But they wouldnt have insane track times and even records in some places if they lowered the HP to stop wheelspin. Same goes for any car, light and low powered cars with nimble suspension can be the funnest cars to drive, but without a bit of power they usually arent impressive on a track A little foot discipline goes a long way and is an added challenge and skill on its own, nailing a launch right or getting the best run out of a corner with a bit of throttle modulation in a higher HP car is satisfying, and if you have it set up right with good tyres, even a low weight low hp car is going to have to really push their braking zone to keep up, and on the exit good luck to them
  • ik ben
ik ben 2 месяца назад @Austin Yup everything you are saying is complete bullshit. A car isn't a shitbox if it spins its wheels in 1st gear. Almost every car can do that if you just dump the clutch. All the racecars on this planet experience wheelspin. Does that mean they have bad suspension or tyres? No, it doesn't. It also doesn't mean that the power is useless. You can use those 500 horses at higher speeds where you'll have more downforce thus grip which renders it useful.
  • JAL89
JAL89 2 месяца назад I never see the point in having so much ridiculous horsepower if i can’t push it every time but then be way illegal. 250-300 is just fine.
  • John Doe
John Doe 2 месяца назад @Percil Enis So many new cars can handle 500+ hp. E63S (612), M5 competition (625). Rumours are that the RS6 and RS7 are getting close to 700 hp. And these are just sedans, station wagons etc. Not even supercars

  • Scott Hastings
Scott Hastings 2 месяца назад Austin Yup the M3 and the megane were on PS4’s, the fiesta and polo on p zero neros. Some decent tyres if you ask me. Yes smaller wheels and a stiffer set up help but I can almost guarantee most cars even with a better set up won’t get all power to the ground 100% of the time ESPECIALLY in 1st gear
  • Austin Yup
Austin Yup 2 месяца назад @Scott Hastings it all comes down to suspension compliance and tires. Today they put those rubberband all season tires on nearly everything. Smaller wheels, taller sidewalls, stiffer bushing and stickier summer tires make all the difference in the world.
  • Scott Hastings
Scott Hastings 2 месяца назад Austin Yup every high powered car I’ve ever been in be it an F80 M3, 265 megane RS, Hyundai I30N, 350z, god even a GT86/polo gti/fiesta ST struggle to get power down without spinning up and requiring a little bit of throttle control. (I was a passenger in the M3 which also struggled to put power down in 2nd&3rd and I was the passenger in the GT86)

Austin Yup 2 месяца назад @Jack Stanton they will never understand the joys of 300hp per ton, traction in 1st, 100 dollar tires, and 27mpg city beating on it hard all at the same time. They just go around and around on the consumerism hampster wheel chasing the latest led taillights.
  • Austin Yup
Austin Yup 2 месяца назад @Jack Stanton yep, the derps are gonna drive their v8 landbarges from gas pump to gas pump forever complaining that they get beat by shitboxes, screaming about how power is everything. Nothing that can be done to save them. I like the lotus guy's comment. Lotuses are very high quality little shitboxes. (Unless he is talking about the evora barge.)
  • Austin Yup
Austin Yup 2 месяца назад @Michael Gallagher 500hp shitboxes dominate time attack because of their handling once you redesign the suspension and tie the suspension mount points to the cage.

Jack Stanton 2 месяца назад @Austin Yup Always gotta be who has the bigger dick contest, forget it.. Wrong place to bring common sense my dude :) 300 hp 4cyls ftw.
  • Liam
Liam 2 месяца назад (изменено) A car can be too light too... While extra weight adds inertia, which can reduce cornering speed especially without adequate tyres, extra weight also adds traction in a launch, remember that friction is proportional to weight (Ff=μN, this is what aero is for) the more friction the more traction. Thats why high end sports cars are mid or rear engined, not only does it improve balance but it also puts more weight over the rear wheels, especially under power where more weight transitions to the rear. For a good balance of straightaway speed and cornering speed you need a bit of weight to be able to put power down without being so heavy as to maintain cornering speed. A bit of extra power also makes a car fun, attacking corners as fast as possible is rewarding, but a bit of cheeky power oversteer is exhilarating. Id love a RWD car with 250-350hp that weighs around 1250-1500kg, if set up correctly it would handle great and put the power down fine, something like a Skyline GTST or 350/70z (which is a little on the heavy side for me, but not overly heavy)
