But that AMC straight 6 was a wonderful motor. Smooth and powerful, and reliable. The CHP bought a small fleet of AMC Eagles with that motor, for patrol work in rural northern counties. Alfred Neuman 4 месяца назад (изменено) Thing is, a base Gremlin such as this is going to be a bit dull looking. But, find an earlier one with the small bumpers ('70 thru '73) and option it up with the wind deflector, X-package with Stripes, Rallye Wheels, Exterior Decor Package and/or bucket seats with Levi's and you got yourself a little honey of a car. Go even further with the 304 V8, the Rallye X Package (adds tach, and amp oil gauges) AM/FM stereo, A/C, tilt, cruise, Automatic.... you could LOAD these cars up with options and have great little cars. Hell, even just picking a different colour would add so much more life to the car. But in the 70's, "Earth" tones were "in". Greens, Yellows, Brown, Beige.....

robert tucker 4 месяца назад @Cardboard Silver considering the Astra is probably one of the best selling cars GM Europe have ever made and you often see twenty year old ones still in day to day service they can't be as bad as you imagine. I've known several go over 200k. Mines on 138k. Not bad eh?
  • Cardboard Silver
Cardboard Silver 4 месяца назад @robert tucker Astras are rattleboxes. So bland, boring, and under powered noise makers. I'd rather own a Vectra or even a Metro. 90 Cosworth Escort is fantastic. 80s Cosworth Sierras are gorgeous. Even Yanks want one, even though they got a limp version, called the Merkur XR4Ti.
  • robert tucker
robert tucker 4 месяца назад @Cardboard Silver unless I lived on a different planet I can't see how you can call the Astra and cavalier rubbish and the Sierra, escort "nice" the cavalier was miles ahead of the noisey, lumpy old Sierra! And the escort with the cvh engine was appalling! Sorry fella but you're way out on this one.

And the AMC Gremlin was built here in my home state of Wisconsin. Although I have a bit of a soft spot for the Gremlin I still want to get my hands on a Pacer... Also don't you mean 43 years???

  • Bartonovich52
Bartonovich52 4 месяца назад Lol... whut? In 1976, no Americans went to space, nor would they until 1981 Disco was coming mainstream and not only would be for the next three years (unofficially ending with Disco Demolition Night in 1979), but would permeate into rock and roll with heavily disco influenced albums like Some Girls, The Wall, Who Are You, Discovery, etc.

  • Evan J
Evan J 4 месяца назад (изменено) @Brickman1000 Disco made the four on the floor beat popular but I'd argue it was the R&B and funk groups of the 70's and their break beats coupled with the electronic movement that influenced a lot of the modern dance pop we hear now. Disco turned into more of a party favor and novelty act commonly heard at weddings, every now and again finding its way oddly into the main stream but not even close to what it was. That opening and closing high-hat and root-octave bass line really signifies disco and I don't hear that as much as you would have in the 70's.
