Tata Harrier Review | Price Starts at 12.69 Lakh | Tata Takes On The Compass | ZigWheels.com

Premiered Dec 6, 2018 658,450 views

Tata has finally launched its much-awaited SUV, the Harrier At Rs 12.69 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. Tata’s new flagship with its introductory price looks like a good value for money package.
The variant-wise price breakup, is as follow:
Tata Harrier XE - Rs 12.69 Lakh
Tata Harrier XM - Rs 13.75 Lakh
Tata Harrier XT - Rs 14.95 Lakh
Tata Harrier XZ - Rs 16.25 Lakh

With the Harrier, it seems like Tata has pulled out all the stops. Beginning with what’s underneath the swanky exterior. It’s based on the D8 platform that also underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport. But, all the aluminium has been ditched in favour of high-strength steel.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre diesel engine developed by Fiat. Yep, it’s the same motor that also powers the Jeep Compass. But, it makes 140PS of power instead of 173PS, while torque is rated at 350Nm. And while the platform and the engine suggest the Harrier is all-wheel drive, it’s not. Power is sent to the front wheels only. As a consolation, you do get ‘Terrain Response’ modes - Rough Road and Wet. There are three drive modes too — Eco, City and Sport.

On the features front, Tata has thrown in quite a whole lot. There’s Xenon projector headlamps, cornering foglamps, 17-inch alloy wheels as well as LED tail lamps. On the inside there’s a soft touch dashboard, and leather upholstery. Infotainment duties are handled by an 8.8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch display in the instrument cluster and a sweet-sounding 9 speaker JBL audio system. It’s loaded to the brim with safety tech too, including 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control and hill descent control.

Himanshu Chaudhry 7 месяцев назад (изменено) Is that the guy who rated swift engined brezza above nexon? Zigwheel views on tata didn't changed even after those big hate comments. "20 lakhs for tata?" What do you want to convey? It is made on discovery's based platform and engine is sourced from fiat 2.0L. Where in this world you'll get car like this at this price point? Kartikayee sir, i have respect for you but your hate for tata boils us sometime! You are ready to pay 13 lakhs for a car which failed the child safety test, you are ready to pay 18 lakhs for creta made on i20 platform which offers just 1.6L engine. Dude, there are many foreigners who watches the reviews of indian car to judge them, and these types of captions ruins the image of whole brand. Grow up zigwheels!

India's first airlines were started by tata which was later acquired by gov, india's first 5 star hotel was started by tata, tata believes in donating and giving solid products unlike maruti which kills innocent indians, tata makes vehicles for indian army, india's first company to cross the mark of $100 billion market share mark is tata

There are many brand which sells their cars at a price which they don't deserves, why not caption them the same? I clearly feels your preconceived notion towards tata. Still, you are great in your reviews.

Kartikeya Singhee 7 месяцев назад Dude! I am super grateful that you wrote in. 🙏 I really think we should be open to criticisms. Just because a vehicle is good doesn't it is flawless, or can't be better. And by calling it like it is, we hope to help them (Tata in this case) become better. We wish them Nothing but success. We wish you the same too. Grow up! Be open to different view points. Thanks again for watching.
  • Raj jat
Raj jat 7 месяцев назад Seems like the caption is typed by maruti fan or a hyundai guy. If people are ready to pay 15 lakh for swift engined suv and 18 lakhs for a 1.6L creta made on i20 platform, then why not this? Harrier is made on range rover discovery platform and a fiat's 2.0L multijet engine, don't expect cheap pricing. This car is more about safety and build quality, things highly irrelevant to maruti and hyundai guys.

Pap Rsa 6 месяцев назад In India shitty stuff sells. Creta, Duster etc. are biggest examples. And are we asking build quality of Tata? Well, I dont blame cause in past Tata cars were shit. But do a little bit of research and you will know Creta, Duster, Kia etc. does not even stand a chance in the riding quality. In Indi an average buyer thinks quality means good plastic and some fancy interiors. Well.... this is one of those SUVs whose overall quality (except the Engine sound) is at par with Toyota. Forget these mini players like Creta, Dusters etc... Its undergone Fishhook test, Double lane change test, disc brake wiper for rainy seasons, a ESP which NOBODY CAN PROVIDE except Land Rover, Toyota and Jeep.... Guys, daal, chawal se thoda upar utho! You are comparing Harrier with some shit cars which your favorite car reviewers have led you believe are good!!!! Harrier has some minor things to be sorted out but trust me, it hs the DNA and engineering which can take it to be a PHENOMENAL SUV!

Apoorv Bajpai 7 месяцев назад @Aaditya Pratap Singh I know a little strengthening is required around the deployment area but it won't render the whole structure of the car stable/unstable. Anyways, yeah Arun seems to be in blind love here 🤣🤣
  • Aaditya Pratap Singh
Aaditya Pratap Singh 7 месяцев назад @Apoorv Bajpai @Raj Jat @Arun K P addition of airbags DOES mean that the structure has to be strengthened, mainly to withstand the force of the airbag inflating at explosive quickness. Looks like Arun is blindingly impressed by Hyundai. Even they have started stupid practices, such as providing relatively unsafe cars, yet charging massive premiums for them.

Arun K P 7 месяцев назад @Sai Shankar You don't need to put period on anything. The discussion was if the european model is different or not. I never said anything about that report being fake.
  • Sai Shankar
Sai Shankar 7 месяцев назад @Rohit Bhatia You claimed to be a Tata fan in a earlier comment but all of your statements says otherwise, you seem to have a hard time digesting the fact that Tata really did put a MUCH more premium platform in their new car which is way better than anything else in the price range. The platform alone is worth more than the compass and creta put together.
  • Sai Shankar
Sai Shankar 7 месяцев назад @Arun K P The body shell was reported as unstable by an international testing agency. Period. Now it's upto you whether you want a feature loaded car but with that hovering over your head.
  • Arun K P
Arun K P 7 месяцев назад (изменено) @vibhor Kryptonian Ncap ratings measure injury to passengers. Check that link above. Can't find anything about euroncap rating the European model as 'stable' after the crash. There is only the 4 star rating of the car with 6 airbags. The new test result says the body shell was rated unstable and not suitable for further loading. euroncap result don't even talk about anything about the body or if its suitable for further use. Cars with 2 airbags and no safety assists usually don't score more than 3 stars. That's normal. Also I'm not comparing the harrier to i20 😂 read other comments above.

  • Apoorv Bajpai

  • Raj jat
Raj jat 7 месяцев назад (изменено) @Rohit Bhatia it's completely clear, indian can't think above hyundai and maruti. This is the midset of expecting more features at lower prices, they'll surely gonna put down the quality. Good luck with your choice. Btw they have changed the caption
  • Rohit Bhatia
Rohit Bhatia 7 месяцев назад Because the list of compromises doesn't justify the cost. Your car's USP can't be that this is LIKE an Old Range Rover. See how it sounds?
  • Raj jat
Raj jat 7 месяцев назад @Arun K P comparatively, yes
  • Arun K P
Arun K P 7 месяцев назад (изменено) @Raj jat Even if they sell a lot, There isn't much of a difference. Indian i20's quality is still really good( not taking into account the crash test, but in terms of durability and quality after going through bad roads for a long time and taking some impacts on the back). If the quality was poor, it makes sense. But quality and durability is really good.
  • Sian Getz
Sian Getz 7 месяцев назад (изменено) @Arun K P Tata has even better build quality. The platform alone is worth about 2 or 3 cretas put together. Creta is worthless, sorry. But Tucson is a very good product, having driven it. Very refined. Only if they'd price it cheaper.
  • Arun K P
Arun K P 7 месяцев назад (изменено) @Raj jat I don't see the euro ncap result saying anything about structure to compare it with the new south african result. Do you have a link?
  • Raj jat
Raj jat 7 месяцев назад @Arun K P you should ask hyundai for that. First gen i20 came with a tag of 5 star ncap rating but not this one. Global ncap results are clear. Dude, hyundai sells 10k i20 and 10k creta every month, having a different assembly will save damn amount of money for them as indian model is not rigid enough. They have different assembly, a guy who works in jeep and worked in hyundai told me that. Dude, let's make it clear! Having more airbags will surely result in more stars but it doesn't affect the structural integrity. Do you have any reason why euro model is stable and indian model is unstable? Same goes for maruti suzuki and their swift! They do the exact same thing! Euro model is structurally stable and indian model is unstable
  • Arun K P
Arun K P 7 месяцев назад (изменено) @Raj jat How is it even a good decision to make a new assembly line with slightly weaker metals. And why? Just to make weaker cars for india? The car is engineered by taking into account all the aspects before finalizing everything and setting up the production lines. They still have to make a good body for the car(it doesn't rattle or anything even after long term use. It's good quality). How much are they gonna save by setting up everything again for a different specification with slightly less strength. It doesnt even make sense. Isn't the car rated 4 stars on euro ncap the older model and the new test is on the new model? Is there a crash test result of the new facelifted european i20?
  • Raj jat
Raj jat 7 месяцев назад @Arun K P it just checked that it is not the polo which is sold in india and it is not even made in india but made in south africa. Irrelevant
  • Arun K P
Arun K P 7 месяцев назад @Raj jat https://www.instagram.com/p/Bprx9TIlMzF/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=wvzd3a1ocpji Volkswagen Polo also scored just 3 stars on the same test on the south african model. It's not because of the body.
  • Raj jat
Raj jat 7 месяцев назад @Arun K P that's true and airbags do matter but you didn't get the point of my comment. I said about rigidness difference b/w the i20 euro model and indian model. Structural rigidity is rated as unstable/stable, that's it! Most of the cars which has better structural rigidity scores better. 3 stars in global ncap is almost like 1 star in euro ncap which is considered toughest ncap in the world. Relate to teambhp
  • Arun K P
Arun K P 7 месяцев назад (изменено) @Raj jat https://www.euroncap.com/en/vehicle-safety/the-ratings-explained/ What's measured is the injury suffered by the people inside. And Some pedestrian safety other assists and warning systems for 5 star. Tell me how these rating doesn't change with airbags and safety features.
  • Raj jat
Raj jat 7 месяцев назад @Arun K P that's true but 3 star is quiet a low score in global ncap which has the lighest norms. In global ncap, they just test the front unlike the euro ncap which includes roll over test, side impact and off-set test. Unstable chassis is a big concern
