  • Joshua Olin
Joshua Olin 6 месяцев назад @wyrazowfkp not to mention the type of battery needed for electric cars, lithium is a limited resource. We don't possibly have enough for every car, every couple of years. The only "environmentally friendly" solution I see, is when super capacitors are much better, and harnessing energy from the wind.
  • Frank Heidemanns
Frank Heidemanns 6 месяцев назад @M773 no junk. What's about the environment? Electricity is renewable AND clean, gas not. To get more power, just build bigger batteries. Yes, high costs in building parts, but no driving to gas station.
  • Frank Heidemanns
Frank Heidemanns 6 месяцев назад @M773 the oil industry saw the potential of their motors, the electricity industry not. This is why they repressed electric motors. Also, one century ago, no one took care of the environment

  • SilvaDreams
SilvaDreams 4 месяца назад @Frank Heidemanns Bwahaha, electricity is not environmentally friendly. Even the renewable types of energy require tons of fossil fuels to make in their construction to make the plastics they use because the ones made from Soy aren't suitable due to low temperatures they degrade at and how quickly they break down... Plus animals love to eat them.
  • Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas 4 месяца назад @wyrazowfkp depends on the location. Less dependent on fossil fuels will drive down prices. Oil producers are not investing in new tech as fast enough. Going electric will force them to think.
  • Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas 4 месяца назад @Joshua Olin Lithium is only 5-7% of the battery. And newer battery tech emerging. Going electric is about sticking it to oil producers who have been killing green tech at every opportunity they get.

  • Jack on the Farm
Jack on the Farm 7 месяцев назад I also built an electric car but eliminated the flywheel and clutch. They are not needed. You can shift by simply taking your foot off the accelerator, shift to neutral, wait a second, then shift to new gear. Motor has adequate torque to drive full time in 3rd gear so I rarely use shifter. Motor is direct coupled to input shaft in transmission.
  • Neal Wallace
Neal Wallace 7 месяцев назад I considered this in my e46 conversion, but I lost the ability to shift quickly in an emergency situation. I went back to clutch setup.
  • Mzn T
Mzn T 7 месяцев назад Can you share some details about that e46 conversion? 👍
  • Dave Hymers
Dave Hymers 7 месяцев назад I retained the clutch in my Toyota pickup conversion like Neal; quick shifts are sometimes necessary ;) (I burned up the oem clutch and installed a performance one after that)
  • Jack on the Farm
Jack on the Farm 7 месяцев назад (изменено) The original poster also said he needed to shift for emergencies. When are quick shifts or emergency shifts necessary when you have a motor of high torque always available? I am not trying to give you a hard time. After driving several thousand miles I don't understand this need?
